How to clean your hair brushes and combs

Its important that we all clean our hairbrush and\or combs that we use to comb our locks because just as hair products and oil can build in our hair, they can accumulate on our comb. You may not realize when your brush or comb need cleaning. Doubtless your comb doesn’t look or smell dirty but with everyday use,a comb can quickly attract unwanted debris that can transfer to your locks, leaving them dull and dirty. Also some built-up gunk will be lurking in the space where the bristles meet the cushion on your brush or in between the teeth of your comb. At the risk of grossing you out just a little haha, allow me to explain what build up consist of: hair grease \oil,styling products, dead skin (from our scalp) and dust. As gross as that may sound, it’s actually very easy and not-at-all gross to clean it out. Here are some best steps one should follow in order to keep the hair so neat and dirt free.

1,Remove hair from the brush or comb with your fingers. You can remove the loose hair by pulling it from the teeth of comb or from bristles with your fingers and toss it in the trash(or a small container like mine). Pick out as much hair as you can. Really tightly bound hair can be loosened and removed with a toothpick.

2,Place brush and comb in a dish big enough to hold all your brushes.

3,Cover brushes with warm water (not hot boiling water). Please my loves make sure not to use hot boiling water when you sit to clean your hairbrushes or combs. In case the comb is made of plastic the hotness can make the product melt and the comb in the process will lose its structure or even break. This can minimize their performance when using them for your hair.

4,Soak the brush and\or comb for 15 minutes. Soak in warm water with a squirt of shampoo(black silk) and savlon antiseptic added to help break the lingering oil, greese, or hair styling products.

5,Use your old toothbrush or a soft-bristled small hand held brush to remove the stubborn already softened build up from in between the comb teeth.

6,Rinse with clean water and lay on a towel to dry. Once the free of gunk, rinse well in clean water and set your comb out on a clean towel to air dry.
Its crucial to properly clean your combs on a regular basis to ensure your hair is always looking its very best. For gorgeous hair with more shine, keep brushes and combs clean my lovelies.

  1. A long time ago I was advised to put combs and brushes in warm water to which a small quantity of ammonia had been added. This works well. It is amazing how we wash our hair every day but rarely actually clean our brushes!
